Los Angeles, California -Tropico de Nopal Gallery-Art Space brings Jaime Guerrero's first solo show presented in Los Angeles, entitled R3 resistance . resilience . revolution.

Jaime Guerrero is a glass artist, recognized for his versatility and broad range in this medium - from functional art to sculptures. R3 resistance . resilience . revolution consists of glass sculptures, exploring questions of ancestry, giving us the juxtaposition of ancient and modern, alluding to past using contemporary symbols. From the clear glass arms-that-project-from-the walls sculptures springs forth a narrative of young men about to be handcuffed and imprisoned in today's marginalization of Latino youth. In his "cucaracha" series, he plays with the metaphor of the ugly, disturbing, yet resilient cockroach, which he transforms into beautiful and precious hand blown glass sculptures. They are meant to disturb and command admiration at the same time. In this manner, the artist makes a reference to current political issues with the intent to turn misfortune and degradation into empowerment.

Guerrero has studied with Masters such as Checco Ongaro, Pino Signoretto, and Ben Moore. He has attended Pilchuck Glass School (Seattle, Washington) and was nominated for the Corning Award. Guerrero has been a featured artist in the Mastercraft show at Gumps in San Francisco for five consecutive years. In 2006 Guerrero received the Saxe Fellowship Award through the Bay Area Glass Institute for Outstanding Artistic Achievement. He has also shown his glass creation in the Chicana/o Biennial in San Jose, California.

Jaime Guerrero's artwork will be on view from June 19 to July 24. The artist's reception is scheduled for Saturday, June 19 from 7 to 10 pm. A conversation with the artist evening will take place on Thursday, July 8 starting at 7pm. The artwork will be on view during gallery hours from Tuesday through Saturday 1 - 5 pm for the entire exhibition time.
